This week the Geek Cast crew unite under one banner, and that banner is just how messed up Pinocchio is. In this weeks Do Review we take a gander at a Cracked article that hits too close to home. Then in our main segment, we reunite with some old friends, Jay and Tom from Tableforged! We talk shenanigans, Gen Con stories, and their new Kickstarter game called Kettou.

  1. Wow, thanks Ry. You really put the pressure on to bring it in the comments. This isn’t like commenting on MPW; here, I feel I need to be witty and insightful. Or, not doltish, at minimum.

    1. Whoops, that should have been…

  2. Nice, some Game of Thrones discussion. My wife and I started our series re-watch over the weekend in preparation of season 6. This will be our third complete series re-watch – we were too busy last year to do a full re-watch, so we just re-watched season 4. And I’m not counting our re-watch of season 1 before season 2’s premiere.

Anyway, with the re-watch started and season 6 eminent, I’ve been craving some GoT discussion. A few of us have been trying to get Jason (MPW/HMP) and Josh (HMP/MSC) to pick up the show, but I don’t think that’s really stuck for either of them yet.

So, I’m looking forward to the GoT discussion over here, but am a bit worried, too. As a proud (and obnoxious) non-book reader – and someone who’s generally obnoxious about spoilers in the first place – I strive to maintain a blank slate heading into each and every episode for maximum surprise impact. I know you guys fly free and naked when it comes to spoilers, so I’ll have to gird my loins and be quick on that 15-second advance button to remain unsullied.

Now, for the worst casting on GoT, I think the obvious one has already been mentioned – the original Daario Naharis. As a non-book reader, though, I probably shouldn’t give my 2 cents on this topic since I have no point of reference. BUT, I’ll go ahead and throw Art Parkinson as Rickon Stark in the mix. Or maybe it’s just the character of Rickon who seems worthless…

I am glad nobody mentioned Kit Harrington. I’ve heard his name bandied about by smug book readers as a poor choice for Jon Snow. Personally, he’s been one of my favorites from the very beginning, so I could care less whether or not he’s a good fit with the book version of Jon Snow.

I’m not sure if you guys already listen to it, but I would recommend the A Cast of Kings podcast once season 6 begins. It’s hosted by David Chen (host of the /Filmcast) and Joanna Robinson (film critic for Vanity Fair), and is the best GoT-focused podcast I’ve found. David hasn’t read any of the books (although, he recently read A Game of Thrones for a season 1 re-watch), while Joanna has read all of them – creates an interesting dynamic for the discussion. For those who care, they don’t spoil anything from the books or future episodes; they only discuss what has happened on the show up to that week’s episode.

Maybe a good choice for a Do Review once season 6 begins.

    1. As a devout show-hater, Kit Harrington is great (in spite of their best attempts). Captures the character well and is one of the better castings. In honor of you, we will attempt to curb our spoiler urges; or at least “alert” better. I’m looking at you, Robb Bass…

      1. Well, I wouldn’t want you all to change because of little old me, but I do appreciate the gesture. Thanks in advance if it comes to pass.

  3. I’ve got to say thanks to GCR for the great podcast recommendations two weeks running with Lore and Swords and Scales.

I’ve now delved deep into both and am highly addicted. The latter is not for the faint of heart, and I don’t recommend if you’re at all sensitive to horrendous true crime.

Thanks again to the GCL guys for a great show as always.

    1. Nico, Honestly not a fan of hardcore history, sorry man, I just couldn’t get into it.

Have you heard Last Podcast On The Left? I can’t get enough of their semi offensive satirical conspiracy theories.
