This week the Geek Cast crew open strong with a discussion over DC’s latest film, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Words are exchanged, heated arguments are had, and somewhere along the way Joe was lost. We reunite and reconvene to join our guest in the main segment. We discuss why wolverines are more relevant than badgers, and other stuff of importance.

  1. Wow….that guy was…interesting. I was way too in my cups last night, so this is what I have for now, but I am crazy interested in hearing what others have to say about this. More later when I recoup….

  2. I haven’t listened to the show yet, but wonder what you guys think about DC’s plan to reveal the Joker’s true identity in Justice League #50 (due out on May 25). Personally, I’m interested to find out who he really is, but am a little conflicted on whether or not I actually want to know.

Then again, I think you’re all Marvel guys, so you may not actually care either way…

    1. I’ve decided to become more of a DC guy actually…

I have no problem knowing who the Joker is. I thought we knew , I could swear they revealed that in The Killing Joke

      1. Like Nico, I’m not big into the comics, so they may have. However, my understanding is that this upcoming issue of Justice League is a big deal because they will finally reveal his true identity. This is all second-hand knowledge from IGN, though, so take what you will from that.

Ry, glad to hear that you’ve decided to get into DC a little more. Having a 6 y/o son, I’ve spent the last three years of my life reading about and getting into comic book superheroes more than I ever did before. And, something I’ve come to realize over the last several months is that I’m actually a little bit more of a DC guy than a Marvel guy. I know I’m probably in the minority (nowadays, at least), so it’s always nice to hear a Marvel guy giving DC some attention.

The split is close – probably something like 55/45 DC to Marvel. I just wish DC/WB made better movies.

  3. So, I wrote a novella over on MPW about Batman v Superman. I won’t retread everything here, but I will say that I liked the movie. It was a little disconnected from a story perspective, which was disappointing because I felt DC/WB laid the groundwork to make a fantastic superhero film. But, this film and Man of Steel have me excited for the DCEU. When compared to the MCU, this darker, grittier, more grounded approach is much more appealing to me. I hope they continue down that path.

And they’ve absolutely nailed their characters: Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman are awesome. Can’t wait to see more of them.

If you’re on the can and need something to read, here’s my full novella over at MPW >> http://moviepodcastweekly.com/movie-podcast-weekly-ep-183-batman-v-superman-dawn-of-justice-2016-and-the-invitation-2016-and-spoilers-for-10-cloverfield-lane-2016/#comment-35120

  4. If it matters, my 5 y/o son is also leaning DC (with no influence from me). He has gear and toys from every comic super hero angle, yet he almost always sides with Batman and Superman. He likes Hulk, Cap, and Iron Man, so he is an equal opportunity kid…but at heart he’s a little dark and serious. Oh, and he values Star Wars above all super heroes.
